Arthritis Treatment

Many senior animals experience arthritis, which is often caused by the cartilage in the joints breaking down. As this inflammation can cause pain and discomfort in your pet’s joints, it is important to address it quickly. 

What is arthritis?

Arthritis is an inflammation in the joints. It often causes pain, stiffness, redness and a warm feeling in the affected area. This degenerative disease affects both senior cats and dogs. Here are some signs and symptoms that can indicate your pet may have arthritis: 

• Significant time spent lying down 
• Limping 
• Stiffness
• Aggression when touched 
• Reduced ability to be physically active 
• Difficulty doing things that were previously easy for them (e.g. going up and down stairs)
• Changed posture 

If you notice your pet exhibiting such changes, we recommend that you consult your vet as soon as you can. 

How do you prevent arthritis? 

There are a number of ways you can help prevent your pet from developing arthritis. 

• Physiotherapy 
• Regular medical checkups 
• Medication 
• Weight management 
• Diet that promotes joint health 

It’s also important to note that some animals are more genetically predisposed to developing arthritis.
